Rapid Refill Ink opens in Blount

Brothers Kevin and Keith Kugley, and their dad David, have opened Rapid Refill Ink in Alcoa.

Although new to Blount County, the Kugley’s already operate tow Rapid Refill Ink locations in Knoxville. The company refills and remanufactures inkjet and laser toner cartridges.

Rapid Refill Ink, a nationally franchise chain, can refill 1,100 different inkjet cartridges and more than 200 models of toner cartridges. More than 400 million computer printers are currently in use.

"We picked this location because of its proximity to Wal-Mart, Staples and Office Depot, said David Kugley.

"Those stores try to keep us out of their plazas because of the service we provide.

"Our service is good for the environment and we save consumers up to 70 percent of what they normally pay for ink cartridges."

In addition to Rapid Refill Ink’s full service store at 741 Louisville Road in the Hamilton Crossing Plaza, the company also has 22 drop-boxes (similar to film drop-off bins) throughout the area.

At the drop-boxes, located primarily in gas stations an d convenience stores, customers can fill out an envelope and drop their cartridge in the bin. The next morning, the re-filled cartridge is waiting to be picked up at the gas station or convenience store where it was dropped.

"We use inks that are as good as our better than the ink used by the original equipment manufacturers," said Kevin Kugley.

"People just go nuts when they see our prices. Not only are they saving money, but they’re getting far more ink in their cartridges.

"With some of the cartridges we put twice the amount of ink as what you get from a store in a new cartridge."

The Kugely’s said many of the computer printer manufacturers – companies like Hewlett-Packard, Lexmark, Canon and Dell – are practically giving away printers because they know they’ll make huge profits on the ink cartridges.

In addition to saving customers money on ink cartridges, Rapid Refill Ink says the company keeps millions of plastic inkjet and toner cartridges out of America’s landfills. According to the company, eight cartridges are thrown away every second.

Keith Kugley said, "I’m excited to be offering this service to my neighbors-and I’m proud to be in such an ecologically aware area."

The new Rapid Refill Ink store is open Monday through Friday from 9am until 6pm and Saturday from 10am to 3pm.
